On August 23, GAC announced that its Hyptec brand, formerly known as Aion Hyper, has commenced production of the Quark Electric Drive 2.0. This new version builds on the original Quark Electric Drive, which was launched in March 2023.
With a remarkable rotational speed of 30,000 rpm, the Quark Electric Drive 2.0 outperforms nearly all other electric motors in its category. It boasts a power density of 13 kW/kg and a motor efficiency of 98.5%. According to Hyptec, this drive can extend the range of an electric vehicle by up to 50 km without a need for an increase in battery size. For electric range extender vehicles, this range boost can reach up to 150 km without the need for a larger fuel tank.
The performance of the Quark Electric Drive 2.0 is attributed to its use of a nanocrystalline-amorphous soft magnetic material, known as ‘liquid metal.’ This material has a magnetic permeability that is 20 to 100 times greater than that of conventional silicon sheets and is only 0.025 mm thick.
The Quark Electric Drive will serve as the power core for Hyptec’s future supercar models.
