US battery recycling capacity increases as Cirba Solutions expands facility

Strengthening Cirba Solutions’ position in the industry

Previously, the Lancaster plant operated on a relatively small scale for lithium ion batteries. The expansion of the black mass production capacity reinforces Cirba Solutions’ ambition to begin refining black mass in the coming years with its black mass production acting as feedstock. It aims to open a hydrometallurgical plant in Lancaster by 2026, with plans to eventually produce enough battery salts to power up to 250,000 EVs.

This expansion has been made possible in part by a USD75 million grant from the DoE, awarded through the BIL in 2022. The company allocated these funds towards the recent expansion of the Lancaster facility.
