The Automotive Cell Company (ACC), a joint venture (JV) between Mercedes, Stellantis and TotalEnergies, has inaugurated a gigafactory in Billy-Berclau, northern France. The project has seen as total investment of USD 2.2billion, with the French state and local authorities providing nearly half of the investment required. The joint venture aims to begin production later this year, with an initial capacity of 13GWh. By 2030, the capacity will be ramped up to approximately 40GWh, enabling the production of approximately 500,000 electric cars annually.

This ground-breaking collaboration is just one of ACC’s ventures in the gigafactory arena. In addition to the Billy-Berclau/Douvrin facility, ACC has gigafactories under development in Kaiserslautern, Germany, scheduled to commence operations in 2025, and in Termoli, Italy, set to start production in 2026.
