Chinese electric vehicle company Nio is close to releasing its third-generation battery swap stations capable of discharging power into the grid. The technology can supply energy to the grid during periods of peak demand, as occurred during China’s recent heatwave and consequent power outages. Nio claims 15 of its battery swap stations in Hefei have fed a total of 8MWh into the grid, reducing the total load on the grid by 1.4%.
