Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt has moved one step closer to establishing a battery manufacturing plant in Germany. Having signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sleswig-Holtein state government back in March 2022, the prospective project has now received initial backing from the Germany federal government as well as local support from the relevant local communities Lohe-Rickelshof and Norderwohrden. Both federal and local governments are anticipating providing subsidies for the Gigafactory. The project is slated to reach an annual production capacity of 60MWh over multiple phases, enough to supply roughly one million EVs.
