The chart below shows global monthly EV sales and battery demand from August 2020 – August 2021. This data is taken from our EV Battery Chemistry Monthly Assessment, highlights from the latest issue include:
- Ford, together with battery partner SKI, announced investment of $11.4 billion for the construction and expansion of its EV and battery plants in the US. Three battery plants are due to start production from 2025, each capable of producing up to 43GWh, for an annual production capacity of 129GWh.
- Mercedes-Benz acquired a stake of ACC, the battery cell JV formed by Stellantis and TotalEnergies-Saft in 2020. ACC’s previous European target of 48GWh output by 2030, has now increased to at least 120GWh.
- BEV & PHEV sales increased by 9% m-o-m in August. YTD battery deployment is now 119% above 2020 levels, compared to the increased y-o-y EV sales of 143%.
