Global Monthly EV Sales and Battery Demand – September 2021

The chart below shows global monthly EV sales and battery demand from September 2020 – September 2021. This data is taken from our EV Battery Chemistry Monthly Assessment, highlights from the latest issue include:

  • Farasis Energy announced the successful testing of Group14 Technologies SCC55 silicon carbon composite anode material. Based on SCC55 announcements, silicon content for this next generation of EV-grade battery cells is estimated at 10-20%. Stellantis announced two new JVs, one with LG Energy Solution and one with Samsung SDI.
  • Stellantis set out its plans at its EV Day in July to achieve a minimum of 260GWh of capacity globally by 2030, to include three plants in Europe and two plants in North America.
  • BEV & PHEV sales increased by 25% m-o-m in September. YTD battery deployment is now 119% above 2020 levels, compared to the increased y-o-y EV sales of 133%.
