Group 14 Technologies has announced it has begun the construction of its second US-based battery materials production facility. Operations are expected to begin in 2024 for the first two factory modules, each producing 2,000 tonnes of silicon-carbon anode material SCC55 per year. A total of six battery modules will produce 12,000 tonnes of annual capacity at the site, although no date for completion of the entire project was given in the company’s statement. The battery materials are to be used as a dopant alongside graphite in the battery anode to improve energy density and increase battery charging speeds.
