On Tuesday 11 April, Japanese automaker Honda Motors announced it has agreed to deepen its partnership with Korean battery and industrial materials company POSCO Materials. The two companies plan to expand their cooperation to include battery materials recycling, automotive steel supply as well as recycled cathode and anode material supply for EV batteries. Honda has been looking to strengthen its supply of battery and low-carbon automotive materials in aid of achieving its target to produce exclusively electric and fuel cell vehicles by 2040, and to reach company-wide  operational carbon neutrality by 2050. For example, the company has invested in a startup from the Japan Atomic Energy Agency to commercialise a low-emission industry metal recovery technology. This latest agreement builds on the pre-existing relationship between the two companies which saw POSCO supplying steel sheets required for vehicle bodywork to the automaker.
