On the 27 March 2023, leading north American battery recycling company Li-Cycle announced that a new recycling facility will be constructed in Harnes, northern France. The site will have an annual processing capacity of 10,000 tonnes of lithium-ion battery materials per year, with room for potential expansion up to 25,000 tonnes per year. The plant is expected to deploy Li-Cycle’s ‘Generation 3’ Spoke technology, which can directly process full EV and ESS battery packs with zero manual dismantling, in turn reducing operating costs and enhancing safety levels. The facility is expected to come online in 2024 and will bring the company’s global battery processing capacity to over 100,000 tonnes of lithium-ion battery materials per year.
