On 14th September 2022, ABB announced plans to construct an electric vehicle (EV) charger production facility in Columbia, South Carolina. The new site will produce up to 10,000 chargers per year for applications in public charging, school buses and fleets, ranging from 20kW to 180kW in power. Recent US legislation including the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act have significantly increased investment for EV charging infrastructure, notably setting out plans for a national network of public chargers as well as targeting 50% of US vehicles sales by 2030 to be electric. As part of meeting growing US demand, ABB plans for the new facility to begin production in 2023.
