Highlights from the latest Battery Recycling Capacity Database:
  • Redwood Materials announced its acquisition of the German-based battery recycler, Redux Recycling GmbH.
  • CNGR Advanced Materials announced its plan to build its first African plant in Casablanca, Morocco for battery materials manufacturing and recycling. The plant will be run by its joint venture with Morocco’s private investment fund, AL MADA.
  • Eramet and Suez announced Dunkirk, France as the location for its black mass production plant. Phase I is expected to have an annual capacity of approximately 43,000 tonnes of battery modules by 2025.

Global battery recycling pre-treatment capacity totalled approximately 1.7 million tonnes of recycling inputs per year as of the end of September 2023 with China accounting for over 80% of the capacity.
