Chinese battery manufacturer CATL has announced plans to begin construction of Europe’s largest battery plant later this year. The leading global battery producer will invest roughly USD7.4billion in the 100GWh battery plant in Debrecen, east Hungary – strategically located near to existing customer assembly factories. The facility will produce cells and modules for European car manufacturers, with Mercedes-Benz initially being the largest customer. CATL’s only other European production facility in Germany already supplies batteries to Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Stellantis and Volkswagen.
