Highlights from this month’s assessment:

  • EVE Energy secures multiple offtakes with system integrators, 10GWh with Powin Energy and 5GWh with American Battery Solutions.
  • Cornex New Energy, a BESS focused cell manufacturer and system integrator announced that its 30GWh factory has been commissioned. Cornex plans to have 100GWh capacity by the end of the year.
  • Project spotlights in January include the Neptune Energy Centre, China Huaneng Ordos Wind + Solar + Storage Project and Hazelwood Power Station.

BESS Capacity Tracker – what does it tell us?

Six months into the 2023, 33GWh of BESS has been installed globally, a y-o-y increase of 160%. June was another strong month for the grid BESS market, with over 9GWh on new capacity entering operation across over 79 projects, a y-o-y increase of 362% compared to June 2022. This included 34 projects over 100MWh entering operation. For the full year 2023, a further 105GWh of capacity is planned to enter operation. In terms of new capacity announcements, over 38GWh was announced, across 65 locations.
