LG Energy Solution (LGES) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chinese Yahua Industrial Group to potentially begin lithium-hydroxide mining activities in Morocco. While details on the size, exact location and funding of the project are unknown at this early stage, the announcement is indicative of the Korean battery manufacturer’s intent to secure upstream capacity of battery-grade materials. LGES has made similar lithium hydroxide supply agreements with Vulcan Energy, SQM as well as lithium-concentrate directly from the Liontown mine in Australia.
