On the 26th July 2022 Korean battery manufacturer LG Energy Solution announced a joint venture (JV) with Chinese lithium-ion battery materials company Huayou Cobalt. The JV will recycle nickel, cobalt and lithium from waste batteries using Huayou Cobalt’s extraction capabilities and supply the materials to LG Energy Solutions’ Nanjing production facility. A post-treatment plant will also be built as part of the agreement. Further details of the JV will continue to be discussed between the two companies over the rest of the year.
