Nevada-based battery recycling company Redwood Materials will supply cathode materials to Panasonic’s Kansas battery production facility. This is the first time US-based Gigafactory-scale cathode production will be used in domestic cell manufacturing. In July this year, the Japanese battery manufacturer announced it will construct a USD4 billion battery production facility in DeSoto, Kansas, which will use the cathode materials provided by Redwood Materials as part of the newly announced deal. Both mass production at Panasonic’s Kansas facility and the first shipment of materials from Redwood to the site are scheduled for 2025.
