Stellantis has said DWPT (Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer) technology may “power our electrified future”, as initial results show progress at the Arena del Futuro – a test track for inductive charging in motion.

The track, constructed in 2021, allows a battery electric vehicle to drive at typical motorway speeds without using the energy stored in its battery. An electric Fiat 500 used in the test was equipped with inductive charging technology from Israeli specialist ElectReon. Other members of the Arena del Futuro partnership include ABB, the chemical group Mapei, storage company FIAMM Energy Technology, and three Italian universities.

The tests also showed the efficiency of energy flow from the asphalt to the car is comparable to the typical efficiency of fast charging stations, according to Stellantis. The magnetic field strength was found to have…
