BYD has unveiled its latest advancement in electric vehicle technology with the introduction of the “e-platform 3.0 Evo” – an enhanced iteration of the e-platform 3.0. The upgraded platform release was accompanied by the debut of the Sea Lion 07 EV. Priced from USD26,000, the Sea Lion 07 EV is positioned as a “medium-sized urban smart electric SUV” within BYD’s Ocean series, showcasing the capabilities of the new architecture.

The upgrades introduced on the e-platform 3.0 Evo are centralised around five key technology clusters, that create a safer, smarter and more efficient vehicle platform.  

What does the platform offer?

Safety

A key aspect of the new platform is the ‘cell to body’ (CTB) design that enhances the safety of the architecture by increasing the front cabin’s safety clearance area. BYD claims this improves frontal collision safety by 60%. The CTB design integrates a high strength roll beam and the blade battery together.

Improved drive system

The platform incorporates a 12-in-1 electric drive system, an upgrade from the current 8-in -1 system. This upgraded system comprises a high-speed motor capable of reaching up to 23,000rpm, alongside high-efficiency reducers, silicon carbide electronic controls, DC converter, battery management system (BMS), vehicle control unit (VCU), On-board charger (OBC), power distribution unit (PDU) and intelligent boost modules. This gives the Sea Lion 07 SUV a top speed of 225km/h (140mhp).
