On 17th May, FAW Group’s Yancheng factory officially commenced production, marking the occasion with the rollout of the first model under its Bestune brand, the Pony.

The Pony, a micro pure electric vehicle (BEV), was launched on 28th May. Priced between RMB26,900-RMB31,900, it offers six exterior designs and five interior colour options. The Pony is available in two variants with ranges of 122 km and 170 km. On the launch day, Pony delivered 1,079 units. However, the Pony faces intense competition, primarily due to the sluggish market for micro BEVs in China.

According to data from the China Passenger Car Association(CPCA), the micro BEV market recorded cumulative retail sales of 130,000 units in the first quarter of this year, an 11% year-on-year decline. The top sellers in this segment, each with sales exceeding 10,000 units, include the Wuling Hongguang MINIEV, Changan Lumin, and Geely Panda. These models are also the main competitors for the Pony. Nevertheless, the long-term outlook for A00-class and A0-class EVs remains positive due to their suitability for personal transportation, strong practicality, and ability to effectively meet commuting needs.
