Long time rivals, Honda and Mitsubishi, are to establish a 50/50 joint venture named Altna. It will focus on three areas of electric mobility and societal decarbonisation. These include optimising EV usage costs, improving the lifetime value of batteries and enhancing resource circulation in Japan, and operating grid-balancing storage batteries.

To achieve these goals, Altna will offer a battery leasing service, repurpose end-of-life EV batteries for energy storage, and operate a smart charging business to optimise electricity costs for EV users.
