Canadian battery recycler, Lithion Technologies (Lithion), has completed the construction of its first commercial-scale black mass production plant in Canada. Located in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, near Montreal, the facility will process 20,000 tonnes of batteries per year at full capacity, equivalent to 45,000 electric vehicle batteries. This milestone represents another step in Lithion’s efforts to support North America’s circular battery economy.
Commissioning of the first commercial scale facility
The Saint-Bruno facility has entered the commissioning phase and is set to come online this year. Currently employing 20 people, the workforce is expected to increase to 60 when the plant is fully operational. The facility has already begun dismantling batteries in preparation for commissioning.
Feedstock
During construction, Lithion has focused on forming strategic agreements for feedstock supply. While it has not disclosed specific companies, it said it had signed strategic agreements with local partners as well as large Canadian, American, and international corporations.
